LIEVER LUI DAN MOE

“A thought-provoking and personal non-fiction debut about the power of boredom – and how you can tackle your screen addiction by staring at a screen even more.”

While companies sell our gaze to the highest bidder, we become addicted to the small screens in front of our noses. We scroll endlessly, swipe restlessly, and click mindlessly. The higher our screen time, the higher the bonus for the big tech bigwigs.

In Liever lui dan moe: Zoeken naar verveling in een wereld vol afleiding (Rather Lazy Than Tired: Searching for Boredom in a World Full of Distractions), film curator and essayist Johannes De Breuker explores how we can reclaim our attention by embracing precisely what the digital world took from us: boredom.

Through filmmakers such as Sofia Coppola, Richard Linklater and Kogonada, he discovers that cinema offers not only entertainment but also a rare opportunity to pause. To truly look, think, and feel.

With sharp observations, personal reflections, and a touch of irony, De Breuker argues for boredom as both an act of resistance and a form of relaxation. Maybe we don’t need to become more productive. Maybe it’s just time to let ourselves be bored.

For the design of the cover and interior, we were inspired by the tic-tac-toe (OXO) game that plays a small part in the beautiful Wim Wenders film Perfect Days. The drawing of the game evolves as you read through the book.

This is the third book that we are publishing ourselves, with our indie publishing house flaneur uitgevers!
