THE ARTIST JOURNALS
A new series of beautifully produced, hardcover and edge-printed journals with art by leading contemporary artists represented by the international art gallery David Zwirner.
The first two journals feature artists Yayoi Kusama and Ruth Asawa.
In the beginning of the series design, we established a ‘kit of tools’ with a range of grids and colours to choose from. For each book, a few artworks are handpicked by the artist and/or estate for the cover and end papers. After that, a complementary grid and colour is selected. Meaningful quotes and a short bio conclude the textual information.

Each book contains 80 blank pages and 80 printed pages. The interior is printed in one spot colour. This colour also comes back on the cover belly bands, that can be transformed into keepsake bookmarks with a surprise inspiring quote on the back. A very tactile, rough paper is used for the covers, making them a pleasure to hold and handle.
The Yayoi Kusama journal features a dark violet dotted grid, while the Ruth Asawa journal features a reflex blue zigzag grid. The edges of the book block are always printed: the same colour as the grid, a complementary tone or a contrasting colour.
New journals are currently in the making! Next up are artists Noah Davis and Marcel Dzama.
